When you mention Chicago, deep-dish pizza, Navy Pier, the Cubs, and something about being windy are the usual thoughts that come to mind. For the seventh straight year, Felipe Villarreal and his Independent crew have changed that mindset. The Independent Chicago show, which was held the weekend of Fourth of July, not only had the holiday celebration feel to it but also was a family friendly show. Located at the Chicago Ridge Mall, over 300 vehicles were in attendance, making this the largest lowrider show in the state.
The sponsors included Sears Automotive, Tom Brown, Danny’s Heating & Air, Esmeralda Goodyear Sales, Show Time Audio, Orlando Glass & Trim, Summit Auto Body, Mark’s Auto Interior, Joe’s Motorcycle Painting, Ace Tire & Rims, Kustom Towing, Advantage Chevy, State Farm Insurance, Crown Customs & Coating, Royalty Clothing, Damage Auto Body & Hydraulics, and Timeless Art Tattoo.
The stage was filled with local talent as Fragile Moreno Brown entertained the crowd and was headlined by Chicago’s own rap group, Crucial Conflict. Hosting the show was Kendra G, a radio personality from WGCI. The lovely Heather Moss, Georjah Jaymes, Kim Thornton, and Avangelin were in the crowd modeling for the car owners and signing autographs.
As one of the largest shows in the Midwest, the Independent club is already working hard to plan next year’s show with bigger expectations, so it might be time to expand to a larger location. Felipe and his club wish to thank all the supporters and participants who enjoyed the Midwest Explosion.
