After me and Beto’s experiment with Cajun shrimp and crab we had a craving for some dessert. Luckily for the two of us I saw an Afters Ice Cream across the parking lot from the Kickin’ Crab.
The brainchild of Westminster-natives, Andy Nguyen and Scott Nghiem, Afters Ice Cream is a frozen food phenomenon sweeping the LA and OC areas. Featuring a variety of original ice cream flavors, the thing that distinguishes Afters from other dessert places isn’t their ice cream but their Milky Buns, a glorious ice cream sandwich consisting of a doughnut filled with your choice of ice cream and toppings.
After taking his first bite, Beto described his Milky Bun as a “flavor explosion in his mouth.” For newcomers the first bite of a Milky Bun can be quite an experience. The taste of the doughnut mixed with the taste of the ice combined with the fact that the doughnut is warm and toasty yet the ice cream is still cold makes for a unique sensation that makes every bite as satisfactory as the one before it.
